About the Author:

"Born in 1934, S.M. Shahid made Karachi his home in 1951 after migrating from India. He has been associated with advertising and ran his own agency, Oscar Advertising from 1963 to 1994, when he handed the business to his son-in-law and daughter and retired to pursue his hobbies - classical music, photography and writing. He has learnt vocal classical music from Ustad Wilatyat Ali Khan for more than two decades. His book "Classical Music of the Sub-continent - An Introduction" was published in 1999 and reprinted in 2001. The book is the first publication of its kind in Pakistan...it communicates its joy and essence even to the layperson...His next book on His next book on music (being printed)is "NOSTALGIA - 50 Unforgettable Melodies and Their Composers"(a selection of Indian and Pakistani film songs based on raags with notes on their composition). He has also compiled, edited and printed "MELODY QUEEN - A Tribute to Pakistan's Super Star" (Noor Jehan), and "PREM SANGEET" a collection of his Ustad's Asthais and Antras. He is also working on two other books - "Kamal Dasgupta - The Man Who Gave Us Our Sweetest Songs" (Bengali composer) and on Tufail Niazi (Pakistani folk singer.) His Urdu books "Abba Bataeaye", "Jungle Ki Dunya", "Client Client" and "Tuzk-e-Ziaee" were acclaimed as fine examples of light humour and social satire. Shahid has also captured images of Thar desert in Pakistan, Wilflife and Karachi's old buildings and has desinged and produced three coffee table books on Arts and Crafts of Pakistan, Furniture and Sports. He is married and and the family lives in Karachi. His elder daughter lives in USA.
